Trophy Buck News

Hunting Written by Robert Gurley My name is Robert Gurley. I am 11 years old. I have 6 brothers and a baby sister. My neighbor Robert Evans built me a 6.8 rifle to hunt with for working for him this summer. He takes me to target practice and teaches me a lot about hunting. During the Arkansas youth hunt, my step dad Scott,my neighbor Robert,my little brother Daniel and I were driving to our deer stands. Scott saw a deer on the way. I did not see it. The deer ran off. We stopped and walked into the woods. Scott turned to walk back to the truck. Another deer got up to see what was going on. It was a buck! I pulled the hammer back and pulled the trigger. The buck went down and started kicking. I had to shoot it again while it was on the ground. Scott went to the deer and counted its points...........

It was an 8 point! Almost 9! We forgot our tag. We drove back home and told my mom. She did not believe me because earlier one of my older brothers John and Scott played a joke on her and told her that John had killed a big buck and she belived them! We got the tag and took my brothers Andy and Dillon back with us to get my buck. When we got to the deer Andy said Holy Cow! That is a big one! He said it had a big rack! We loaded the deer up and took it to town to check it in. Then we took it to show it to Mom! Andy helped me clean it. I gave one of the tenderloins to my uncle and my mom is going to make me some jerky. Yesterday was my birthday. This was a great birthday present and I am thankful that God provided meat for me and my family. Robert Gurley,11 years old,Athens AR
